Aspect Medical Systems, Inc. is launching its BISx Power
Link system, a novel BIS™ monitoring solution that provides
the processing technology required to obtain BIS information
from a single, portable device the size of a hockey puck.
The
new BISx Power Link interfaces with monitoring systems made by
leading manufacturers to display a patient's BIS information
along with other vital signs. The BISx Power Link provides users
with flexible 'plug and play' BIS solutions that work with the
majority of patient monitoring platforms -- from high-end
systems in the operating room and intensive care unit, to pre-configured
systems in ambulatory surgery centers or procedural sedation
locations.

Aspect recently coordinated an early evaluation release
of the BISx Power Link at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D,
and received positive feedback. "Our initial impression of the
BISx Power Link is very favorable," said Scott Carter, Altru's
lead CRNA for product evaluations. "The ergonomics, functionality
and ease-of-use are greatly improved and the clamp-style housing
attaches to nearly anything. Furthermore, the monitoring cables
and the BIS engine housing are durable and well protected."
Patient monitoring systems that are equipped to interface
with BISx or a BIS Module will be referred to as "BIS Ready,™" and
will be fully capable of displaying consciousness monitoring
information throughout the continuum of healthcare settings.
Aspect's OEM partners that will be BIS Ready include Datascope,
Dixtal, Draeger Medical, GE Healthcare, Nihon Kohden, Philips
and Spacelabs.

Draeger Medical will be one of the first companies to
offer customers BIS Ready solutions
with the BISx Power Link for use across the majority of its current
and future multi-parameter
patient monitoring systems. "Our customers have been using
BIS monitoring with
Aspect's A-2000 for quite a while, and we're proud
to be improving our offering by rolling out
our fully integrated BIS Ready products," said Soma Chatterjee,
Product Manager for Draeger
Medical Systems, Inc. "BIS is one more valuable tool to help
anesthesiologists provide better
patient care, and Draeger Medical has never had a BIS solution
that's been as well-integrated
and easy to use." Draeger Medical expects that its BIS Ready
Infinity monitors* will begin
shipping internationally in the Fall of 2004 and domestically by
the end of the year.
